community engagement solo exhibition
Date

'We were lost but can be found,
Seek us out around the town.
From the majestic Anglican Cathedral to the famous Pier Head.
The grandeur of St George's Hall or the revellers of Matthew Street instead.
On gravestones, statues, railings and steps,
At all the landmarks we love the best.
Find a lost soul and take it home to rest.'
Step into a realm where history, memory and imagination intertwine in “The Lost Souls of Liverpool”. This unique exhibition invites you to explore the vibrant city of Liverpool through the lens of art, unveiling a hauntingly beautiful collection of small, ghost-shaped clay figures – each a poignant representation of the lost souls that have walked the streets of this vibrant city.
Scattered through iconic landmarks, these delicate sculptures embody the stories of those who came before us. From the bustling docks that once echoed with sounds of hope and despair to the lively streets where music and culture collide, each figure serves as a silent witness to the lives that have shaped Liverpool’s identity. As you wander through the city, you will encounter these ethereal forms nestled in unexpected places, inviting contemplation and connection.
Visitors are encouraged to engage with the lost souls in a personal way: take a figure home and create your own narrative around it. What does it mean to you? How does it resonate with your experiences or the stories you’ve heard? By inviting the audience to adopt these figures, artist Evelyn Baker encourages a dialogue between the past and the present, allowing each person to forge their own understanding of loss, memory and legacy.
